The Sculpture: Prologue...

Eighteen months earlier....

Catriona was heading to the airport to meet her flights taking her back to Scotland to spend the last few months with her Gran who was dying. She was sad knowing she'd not be around for much longer but with some sales of her work she could easily afford to travel and stay with her. Cat had long ago chosen art to be her main source of income, having excelled when in College, selling many works since then.

Her Gran was thrilled as were the staff who knew Cat well from her many visits as a child. It was just a shame given the current circumstances. Still Cat was determined to make the most of the time they could both enjoy and her Gran had given her free reign to create a large sculpture in the Atrium. Having done her research Cat found Granite to be the best material to work with along with the modern tools of the trade.

Cat soon settled into her new home with her Gran, spending as much time as they could together, with many laughs with the staff. Mary was head of the kitchen and had always had a soft spot for Cat and along with the staff, was thrilled she was making her Gran's home hers. They all knew it was to be left to her knowing she'd stay on afterwards as well.

Cat enjoyed a good six months with her Gran before she passed peacefully in her sleep. It was hard at first after the funeral, even with knowing her Gran had left her the home and the surrounding farm land. Mary and the staff made sure she ate and drank, checking on her daily as she locked herself away with her new sculpture. It had been her Gran's idea to create a Naga, had even made her do some research into the mythology of such a creature.

At the time Cat had been surprised, but her Gran had been steadfast in her choice, telling her granddaughter she would understand one day why she had insisted on it being her project. And today as on every other day since her Gran's passing, she was shut away in the Atrium with her Enigma music on repeat below her as she worked on creating this mythical being.

Unbeknownst to Cat, her Gran had long since known of such creatures, that she was well versed in mythology and had felt the Naga would be perfect for her Catriona, in all ways, not just in her art. Gran had known Rayze's grandparents but like many who knew of them, had always kept it to herself, only the joint staff of the households ever knew. Cat had often wondered why Mary had always smiled when viewing her progress, thinking it was just her enjoying Cat's art. Her Gran had secretly asked Rayze to look after her granddaughter, knowing she was going to die, hating to leave her on her own, despite Cat preferring to be alone. Rayze had agreed, having watched her himself, sometimes blending into the sculpture to watch her more closely as she worked.

Her Gran had met Rayze's grandmother Julia, in her youth quite by chance then forming a long lasting friendship over the many years, often visiting with her and Rayze's grandfather. It was through them that she had met Raze's family and had taken to Raze. When Cat's Gran had became ill that Rayze's grandmother had asked him to watch over her and as her favourite grandson he had agreed given his own soft spot for his Gran's dear old friend.

In regards to a Naga not a lot is known of how they find their mates, only their longevity enhanced with magic. Rayze was taught he would know instinctively who his mate would be along with a unique scent. As a young-ling he had laughed it off but gradually over the years of watching his brothers and sister had each find their respective mates, had quizzed them each on how they had known. Finding it was as he had been told. He learnt early how to use his magic for protection and in a good fight without giving away his true identity.

Along with his magic he also had natural healing abilities within his venom, as well as it having a slight aphrodisiac effect when he bit his lovers. Rayze had been advised that when he did find his one soul mate for life that he would need to bite her, which in turn would create an image of himself on her body. It was their choice as to where that bite be made and it would only ever appear on his true mate. Rayze had also had explained to him as a young male that when he did find his mate that he would need to let her know of the changes that would affect her, the lengthening of her life span and enhancing any natural ability she may already have.

When Rayze had had moments alone with Cat's Gran where he had expressed his desires towards Cat, explaining what that entailed hoping she would approve. Gran had been very happy, she had seen his growing attraction towards her granddaughter. Knowing her granddaughter would live a long and very full life with a wonderful man and being she knew she'd die happy with no concerns for her granddaughters well being.. Apart from having left her the Mansion she also had set up a trust fund for her favourite granddaughter many years prior, knowing that Cat would be very happy here even after she had gone. Many times she'd tried to make her have a break which only ever became the odd visits to her mothers sister who loved nearby.

Gran had sensed he felt something more for her granddaughter and had given him her approval for when the time came to reveal himself and to ask her to be his. Gran's only stipulation had been to wait for Cat to show him some emotion towards the sculpture, knowing that she would in time. Rayze had honored her last wishes regretting that she would leave them both, but thankful he had known her through his grandparents and thus meeting Catriona in secret.

Rayze would sometimes find a moment to sit with Mary talking about Cat, as he worried too at times that she did not go out, despite knowing her Aunt was a regular caller to make sure she was alright. He had to be content knowing Mary and the staff were looking after her as he too watched over her, wishing he could let her know he was there in those odd moments when she broke down missing her Gran, feeling more alone now than she had ever been, when in her own home working. They had shared a unique bond and Mary along with her aunt had known she would take it hard. As had her Gran thus her asking of Rayze to be there, to watch over her and love her as she had.

Only Rayze did more than just love her as her family, he had fallen in love with her, thus he sought her Gran's approval before she died. Along with agreeing to wait for the right time to reveal himself. Mary had been thrilled when he had talked to her about his feelings, she too knew it was wise to wait for Cat to be in the right frame of mind to be more accepting.

The months passed as her sculpture grew. Then in her dreams her sculpture seemingly became alive and real. Leaving her wanting more every morning when she woke. It was during these months of dreaming that Rayze let slip into her mind, his name. He had first asked Mary if he could, not wanting to invade her mind without any-ones permission. Mary had been thrilled expressing her hope he would not wait too long to reveal himself, knowing full well Cat had now developed strong feelings for her sculpture as he took on more human like features within the upper body.

It was only when she started to touch him more after her work each day, enjoying the feel of the smooth granite beneath her hands and fingers, happy there hadn't been too many issues with the material and her sculpture taking form. Cat had also started to talk to him, albeit a one way conversation, but she would talk as she worked, enjoying herself and her dreams or fantasies as she often thought them to be.

Rayze had mentioned to Mary about those conversations as he needed to know she was happy for him to very soon reveal himself to Cat and claim her, asking her to be his for all time finally. Mary happily gave him her approval, looking forward to the much happier Cat that she knew would come from the reveal and claim. They had enjoyed a hug before he had gone back to watch over his Cat for the rest of that day.....
